Pipe jacking is a method of underground pipeline construction that developed after shield tunneling. It requires no surface excavation and can cross roads, railways, rivers, surface buildings, underground structures, and various underground pipelines. Pipe jacking utilizes the thrust of a main jacking cylinder and a relay between pipes to push the tool pipe or tunnel boring machine from the working shaft through the soil and hoist it into the receiving shaft. Simultaneously, the pipeline following the tool pipe or tunnel boring machine is buried between the two shafts, achieving trenchless underground pipeline installation.
