Pipe jacking is a complex and comprehensive technique that requires the coordinated implementation of multiple trades. An earth pressure balance (EPB) pipe jacking machine (TPJ) primarily consists of a machine head, a rear jacking device, an electrical control system, and an auger. The machine head is a steel cylinder that primarily cuts soil at the jacking surface and maintains the excavation surface balance. The rear jacking device, consisting of a base, a cylinder assembly, a hydraulic pump, and a jacking machine, is the machine's power system, responsible for continuously jacking each pipe segment. The electrical control system is the machine's system, responsible for coordinating the mechanical equipment. The auger is also a key component of the EPB pipe jacking machine and serves as its transport system. It transports the cut soil out of the tunnel. The auger's rotational speed is controlled to adjust the amount of excavated soil, thereby replacing underground space.

The PJ construction process involves tunnel excavation, accomplished through the coordinated cooperation of these components. The pipe jacking construction process: First, the main hydraulic cylinder jack pushes the tool pipe through the wall hole of the starting well, forcing the tool pipe into the soil. The soil in the tool pipe is loaded manually and by conveyor belts. The pipe is then transported out of the well using a trolley and hoisted out of the working well using a winch. When the jacks reach their maximum extension, they are fully retracted, and push-on irons are added. The jacks continue to push the tool pipe forward. This process is repeated with the addition of push-on irons, allowing the tool pipe to penetrate deeper into the soil. When the tool pipe and a pipe section are almost completely pushed into the soil, all push-on irons are removed. Then, the second pipe section is lowered into the working well, a water stop is installed, and it is connected to the back of the first pipe section, and the jacking continues. This cycle repeats until the receiving well hole is pushed out.
