How to Treat the Joints of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Jacking Pipes?
The pipe joints primarily consist of an outer sleeve (steel sleeve), a rubber waterstop, and a soft soil liner. The steel sleeve must be free of deformation and damage during transportation and lifting from the fabrication site to the site. This ensures that the rubber band does not shift or flip during the jointing process, ensuring a secure seal. Furthermore, the steel sleeve must be treated with anti-corrosion treatment before delivery.
The rubber waterstop should be kept clean and free of oil and stored in a dark place to prevent aging. During construction, the rubber waterstop should be glued to the groove in the concrete pipe opening and securely affixed. Before joining the pipe joints, apply a corrosive lubricant to reduce friction and prevent the waterstop from flipping, shifting, and breaking.
The cork liner is made of multiple layers of plywood (approximately 1 cm thick) sandwiched between the steel sleeves of the front and rear pipe joints. This distributes the forces between the pipe joints and minimizes joint damage. After the pipeline is pushed through, the internal joints of the pipeline must be processed, and the plywood between the pipe sections must be chiseled to the same depth (2~3cm is sufficient), and then smoothed with asphalt elastic caulking paste or cement mortar. (4) Grouting process: During the long-distance (more than 100 meters) pipeline jacking process, the grouting process is required. The thixotropic mud sleeve is used to reduce the friction between the pipe wall and the soil during the jacking process, and to fill the lost soil, thereby reducing soil deformation, settlement and water isolation. Thixotropic mud is made by mixing bentonite and water in a ratio of 1:8. After mixing, the thixotropic mud is stored in a slurry storage box and transported to the grouting hole of the concrete pipe through a grouting machine through a pipeline, and injected into the soil to form a mud sleeve.
